Swiss or North German Riding Sword 1480-1530

Description

Beautiful example of a Hand and Half Riding Sword possibly Swiss. The very large medieval blade has markings at the top just under the guard and a crude fuller extending 240mm below the ricasso. Traces of gold shows this sword was once gilded and was a very classy sword indeed. The spiral pommel and guard tips show the Islamic influenced decorations found on so many weapons of this era. The scent bottle style grip still has its leather binding with a X mark usually found on Swiss swords. Small amount of metal are missing on the trapezoid counter guard possibly due to ancient corrosion.
length of blade: 910mm, grip: 180mm, width of cross guard: 260mm, width of blade: 54mm, weight: 1.32kgs.
