Description
Australian Central Desert spear thrower, stone carved with sharpened flint stone cemented to the grip using gum resin. Hardwood peg held in place using sinew and gum resin. The whole has been rubbed with a light ochre. There is a slight split in the wood at the peg end but stable. The flint was used as an important cutting implement in the manufacture of other wooden weapons and tools. The curved dish shaped wood serves for mixing pigments such as ochre, blood and pipe clay. For this reason most remain smooth and un-carved.
